Responsible Gambling

Updated:

Gambling is entertainment, not a source of income. It's only permitted for people 18 and over, and only with amounts whose possible loss won't cause you financial difficulty. Set yourself a time and money limit and stick to it — gambling stays enjoyable only as long as you stay within your limits.

The risks of gambling

Gambling carries risk and can lead to addiction for some people. The outcome always depends on chance, and over the long run the casino has a mathematical edge — so never treat it as a source of income or a solution to financial problems. If you feel gambling has stopped being fun and has become a burden, it's worth taking a break and seeking help.

Signs of problem gambling

Problem gambling has early, recognisable signs. If you notice several of the following in yourself or someone close to you, it's worth paying attention:

  • You spend more time or money gambling than you originally intended.
  • You hide from people close to you how often and how much you gamble.
  • You try to "win back" losses by gambling more.
  • You keep gambling even though it's causing financial difficulty or debt.
  • You feel restless or irritable when you can't gamble.

These signs aren't a diagnosis, but they are a guide. Recognising them is the first step — the next is talking about it and, if needed, reaching out to a specialist.

Self-exclusion tools

Licensed casinos are required to offer tools for controlling your gambling. You'll find these in your account settings:

  • Deposit limits. You can set a daily, weekly, or monthly maximum deposit.
  • Self-exclusion. You can exclude yourself from gambling for a set period or permanently — in Ireland this works through the nationwide National Gambling Exclusion Register, which applies across all GRAI-licensed operators at once.
  • Time-out. You can temporarily suspend your account if you need a break.

If these tools aren't clearly available or you can't set them, contact the operator's customer support.

Where to get help (Ireland)
